Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney with 1–3 years of experience to join its Data, Privacy, and Cybersecurity practice group. This role involves advising clients on a broad spectrum of privacy, data processing, and cybersecurity issues in the context of complex corporate and technology transactions, including M&A, IPOs, and strategic partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a strong transactional background and an interest in working with clients in innovative sectors such as AI, fintech, cloud computing, and software. Recruitment is being conducted on behalf of the firm.

Location:

  • San Francisco, CA

Duties:

  • Advise public and private companies on privacy and cybersecurity risks in corporate transactions

  • Support M&A, capital markets, and other commercial and strategic deals with data privacy and regulatory counsel

  • Conduct due diligence and draft risk assessments related to data protection laws (including GDPR, CCPA, etc.)

  • Draft and negotiate data protection agreements, privacy policies, and cybersecurity provisions in contracts

  • Monitor and interpret emerging privacy laws and enforcement trends

  • Collaborate with attorneys across multiple practice areas, including corporate, IP, and regulatory

Requirements:

  • 1–3 years of relevant legal experience in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, technology transactions, or related areas

  • Exposure to data privacy or cybersecurity legal frameworks preferred

  • Strong interest in technology, innovation, and digital regulation

  • Prior experience working with clients in tech-driven sectors is advantageous

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Outstanding academic credentials required

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction

  • CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional) certification is a plus

Skills:

  • Excellent legal writing, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously under tight deadlines

  • Team-oriented with a proactive, client-focused approach

  • Strong interest in privacy, cybersecurity, and evolving regulatory landscapes
