Job Overview:

The Post-Conviction Relief Attorney will be responsible for handling post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, and early termination of probation. Experience in immigration law is highly desirable as the position involves interactions with both criminal and immigration practices. The attorney will represent clients at motion hearings, provide legal advice following each hearing, and manage open criminal cases. Additionally, they will conduct legal research, draft motions, and analyze probable case outcomes. A team player mindset and strong interpersonal skills are essential for this role.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on their legal rights and draft legal documents regarding their cases
  • Handle post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, and early termination of probation
  • Experience with immigration law preferred, given interactions with both criminal and immigration practices
  • Attend motion hearings on behalf of clients and provide post-hearing advice
  • Manage open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing
  • Manage court appearances, draft motions, interview clients, and conduct legal research
  • Analyze probable outcomes of cases using knowledge of legal precedents
  • Manage workload effectively and provide legal analysis to determine case benefits
  • Collaborate with fellow associates and contribute to strategic planning
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred

Requirements:

  • Experience handling criminal cases at the state and local levels
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred
  • Relevant education and certifications in law
  • Admitted to practice law in California
