Job Overview
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a highly motivated Intellectual Property Associate with 2–4 years of experience to join its dynamic IP practice. The ideal candidate will bring strong academic credentials, technical fluency in engineering or science, and experience in patent and/or trade secret disputes. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge matters involving leading technology and life sciences companies in various high-stakes venues across the country.

Duties

  • Represent clients in all phases of intellectual property litigation, including patent and trade secret matters

  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery materials

  • Assist with pre-trial strategy, trial preparation, and hearings in federal court or before administrative bodies such as the ITC or PTAB

  • Participate in inter partes review (IPR) and other post-grant proceedings before the USPTO

  • Work closely with partners and senior associates on complex legal matters and litigation strategy

  • Engage with expert witnesses and technical teams to support IP-related litigation

  • Manage multiple cases with attention to deadlines and client expectations

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of intellectual property experience, including experience with patent and/or trade secret cases

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a legal team

  • Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills

  • Experience in venues such as the Eastern District of Texas, Northern District of California, ITC, or USPTO (preferred)

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and a high level of initiative and professional responsibility

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Admission to the State Bar in the location where the attorney will be based (required)

Skills

  • Strong technical background in one or more of the following areas:

    • Electrical Engineering

    • Computer Science

    • Mechanical Engineering

    • Physics

    • Biochemistry

    • Chemistry

    • Chemical Engineering

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to understand and translate complex technical information into persuasive legal arguments

  • Proficiency in managing large-scale litigation and client communications
