A prestigious law firm, based in Denver, CO, is seeking a skilled Patent Agent with a background in Electrical Engineering and Software to join its dynamic Patent Prosecution & Litigation practice group. This role provides the opportunity to work within an innovative and forward-thinking team, handling high-profile patent matters across various technical fields. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in intellectual property law, with experience in patent prosecution and litigation, specifically in electrical engineering and software technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, prosecute, and manage patent applications focusing on electrical engineering, software, and related technologies.
  • Support the litigation team in various phases of patent litigation, including preparation for trials, depositions, and discovery processes.
  • Conduct patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, and infringement opinions.
  • Prepare and file responses to office actions, including amendments and arguments.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their technological innovations and provide strategic advice on IP matters.
  • Maintain and update case files and communicate with clients regarding their IP portfolios.
  • Stay current on developments in IP law and technological advancements, particularly in the areas of networking, software, wireless technologies (e.g., 3G/4G/5G), and semiconductor design.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in patent prosecution and litigation with a focus on electrical engineering, software, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in IP law and procedures, including patent drafting, office actions, and patent portfolio management.
  • Admitted to practice before the USPTO.
  • At least 2-6 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Design engineering experience with a semiconductor or chip company is a plus.
  • Knowledge of wireless technologies (e.g., networking, 3G/4G/5G) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • An advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a relevant technical field is a plus.

Certifications

  • Must be admitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills

  • Expertise in patent law, including prosecution and litigation.
