Job Overview

A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a full-time Patent Prosecution Team Attorney to support its Electronics & Software practice group. This is a non-partnership track role with a reduced billable hour requirement and is ideal for a USPTO-registered attorney with experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications related to software technologies. The role also includes opportunities for client counseling and portfolio development.

Location

• Denver, CO

Duties

• Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications involving software technologies

• Collaborate with inventors and clients to evaluate inventions and draft high-quality applications

• Respond to office actions and manage patent dockets

• Provide guidance on patent strategy, portfolio development, and patentability assessments

• Conduct legal research and draft opinions on freedom-to-operate and validity

• Coordinate with other attorneys, agents, and technical professionals

• Maintain detailed documentation and ensure compliance with USPTO requirements

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of patent prosecution experience, particularly in software or electronics

• Experience in portfolio development and client counseling (preferred)

• Strong familiarity with software-related technologies such as cloud computing, encryption, AI, bioinformatics, mobile applications, networking, and databases

• Highly detail-oriented with excellent time management

Education

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in:

  • Computer Engineering

  • Computer Science

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Physics

  • Or a closely related technical field

Certifications

• Active registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

• Admission to a U.S. State Bar (California or Washington preferred)
