Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its Dispute Resolution Department. This role is ideal for a motivated and detail-oriented individual with experience in design and construction law, arbitration, mediation, and litigation. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling various legal tasks, including depositions, court appearances, briefings, and trial preparation, with a focus on providing exceptional service to clients in a dynamic legal environment.

Location:

  • Chicago, IL

Duties:

  • Handle depositions, court appearances, and trial preparation in design and construction law matters.

  • Participate in arbitration and mediation, including experience with AAA, JAMS, or similar platforms.

  • Manage routine litigation tasks with minimal oversight, including document review and briefing.

  • Execute agreed strategies and tactics, ensuring alignment with litigation goals.

  • Manage client relationships with partner oversight and provide legal advice on dispute resolution matters.

  • Handle Illinois mechanics lien claims and related legal processes.

  • Implement litigation holds and manage electronic discovery processes.

  • Document repeatable processes and contribute to process improvement within the firm.

  • Stay up to date with and adopt new technology to enhance litigation processes.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to continual learning and professional growth.

Requirements:

  • Experience in design and construction law, including litigation, mediation, and arbitration.

  • Some experience in Law and Chancery Divisions, Cook County Circuit Court.

  • Experience in arbitration and mediation through AAA, JAMS, or similar platforms.

  • Knowledge of Illinois mechanics lien claims.

  • Strong experience in managing electronic discovery and implementing litigation holds.

  • Ability to execute routine litigation tasks with minimal oversight.

  • Ability to manage client relationships with partner oversight.

  • Strong interest in documenting repeatable processes.

  • Strong acumen for adopting and utilizing new technology effectively.

  • Illinois Bar membership (in good standing).

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Illinois State Bar (required).

Skills:

  • Strong litigation, mediation, and arbitration skills.

  • Proficiency in Illinois mechanics lien claims and related legal processes.

  • Expertise in electronic discovery and litigation holds.

  • Ability to work independently and manage client relationships.
