Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated Patent Agent/Advisor with industry experience to join its patent counseling and prosecution practice in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have a degree in electrical or mechanical engineering and at least one year of law firm experience.

Duties

  • Conduct prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
  • Analyze patent and scientific papers to assist attorneys in prosecution, counseling, and litigation.
  • Draft patent applications and responses to office actions.

Requirements

  • Substantive industry experience in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • At least one year of law firm experience.
  • Superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Initiative, fast learning ability, and teamwork skills.

Education

  • Degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • An advanced degree is a plus.

Certifications

  • Registered US patent agent or eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration exam.

  • Broad scientific knowledge in electrical or mechanical engineering.
