Job Title: Patent Agent

Job Overview:
A leading law firm based in Miami, FL, is seeking an experienced Patent Agent to support its dynamic Intellectual Property team. The role involves strategic patent portfolio management and patent prosecution activities, with a focus on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. The ideal candidate will contribute to a variety of intellectual property (IP) matters across a broad range of innovations in the life sciences industry.

Duties:

• Conduct assessments of inventions for patent eligibility and potential value

• Draft and file patent applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

• Manage U.S. and international patent prosecution efforts

• Participate in IP due diligence and intellectual property audits

• Collaborate with legal professionals, scientists, and business leaders to shape IP strategy

• Research complex legal and technical issues in the IP domain

• Facilitate coordination with global partners on cross-border patent matters

• Engage in internal knowledge-sharing initiatives and interdepartmental collaborations

Requirements:

• At least 4 years of experience in patent prosecution within a law firm or in-house legal department

• Substantive exposure to IP issues in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or medical device sectors

• Proven ability to manage complex patent portfolios and guide strategic decisions

• Experience with mechanical or electrical technologies is considered a plus

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences-related discipline (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering)

Certifications:

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, or near-term eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar

• Active State Bar license in good standing (if holding a legal qualification)

Skills:

• In-depth understanding of patent law and life sciences technologies

• Strong writing and analytical abilities

• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences

• Comfortable working in collaborative and multidisciplinary team environments
