Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Education Attorney in Sacramento, CA, to make a significant impact in K-12 and independent school law. The role involves advising private and independent schools on complex legal issues, including labor and employment matters, and contributing to the educational landscape.

Duties

  • Serve as trusted counsel to school leaders and boards on governance, policy, and risk management.
  • Handle student discipline, enrollment/admissions issues, and student/parent disputes.
  • Advise on employment law, including hiring/termination, investigations, wage/hour, and accommodations.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts, handbooks, policies, and MOUs.
  • Manage pre-litigation strategy and litigation in state/federal court and administrative matters.
  • Provide training on best practices, compliance, privacy/data security, and records management.
  • Partner with a collaborative team that values practical solutions and outstanding client service.

Requirements

  • Active California Bar membership (required).
  • 5+ years advising/representing private and/or independent schools in California.
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • A collegial, detail-oriented, strategic approach and commitment to client service.
  • Bonus: experience with nonprofit corporate issues, religious/mission-aligned schools, investigations, privacy & data security, or policy/handbook development.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

  • Active California Bar membership.
