Job Overview:

The Criminal Defense Attorney provides legal counsel and representation to clients facing criminal charges. They manage all aspects of the client's case, from pretrial hearings to trial proceedings, while protecting the client's legal rights and interests.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on their legal rights and draw up relevant legal documents about their case
  • Attend pretrial hearings on behalf of clients and provide post-hearing counsel on optimal legal strategies
  • Manage court appearances and trials, draft motions, interview witnesses, and conduct legal research
  • Analyze potential case outcomes based on legal precedents and statutes
  • Effectively manage the workload of cases, prioritizing tasks and deadlines
  • Provide in-depth legal analysis to clients to evaluate potential case benefits
  • Gather additional evidence to support the client's case or challenge the prosecution's charges
  • Prepare clients for depositions and strategize case goals
  • Experience handling complex criminal cases at federal, state, and local levels
  • Collaborate with fellow associates, contributing to team strategies and support
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills for effective client communication and relationship-building

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in the California State Bar or eligibility for reciprocity
  • Experience practicing criminal defense law
  • Strong knowledge of criminal law and court procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in legal research and case analysis
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
