Trial Attorney - Insurance Defense

Job Overview

A law firm seeks a full-time Trial Attorney with a minimum of ten years of experience in insurance defense to manage a full caseload in New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, and the Lower Hudson Valley. The role involves representing civil defendants, analyzing lawsuits, preparing pleadings, and attending various legal proceedings.

Duties

• Analyze complex lawsuits and prepare necessary pleadings.
• Develop rapport with clients and claim customers.
• Conduct depositions and attend court conferences, arbitrations, motions, and trials.
• Participate as a trial and/or appellate attorney in significant cases.
• Provide legal research and advice on complex cases.
• Work independently in file handling and decision-making.
• Maintain minimum billing requirements.

Requirements

• Minimum of ten years of litigation and trial experience.
• Licensed to practice law in New York State and admitted to Federal Court in the Eastern and Southern Districts.
• Ability to handle a large caseload of high indemnity matters.
• Comprehensive knowledge of motor vehicle, premises, UM/SUM, and subrogation claims.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

• Licensed to practice law in New York State.

Skills

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with Windows OS, MS Word, MS Teams, and MS Outlook.
• Experience with legal case management programs is a plus.
• Ability to adapt to new software programs.
