Job Overview:
An established and highly regarded personal injury law firm in Southfield, Michigan is seeking a talented and persuasive Appellate Attorney to join its litigation team. Location:

Duties:

  • Review trial court records and transcripts to identify issues appropriate for appeal

  • Conduct in-depth legal research to support appellate arguments and identify novel authority

  • Draft appellate briefs, applications for leave to appeal, and related legal memoranda

  • Present oral arguments before state and federal appellate courts

  • Collaborate with trial counsel to build long-term litigation strategies

  • Stay updated on legal developments relevant to personal injury and appellate law

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in appellate law preferred; strong legal writers with litigation experience will also be considered

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple appeals or legal writing assignments simultaneously

  • Clear, confident oral presentation skills suitable for appellate argument

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines under pressure

  • Passion for legal reform, persuasive argumentation, and high-level litigation

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Michigan State Bar (active and in good standing)

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal research and writing proficiency

  • Appellate brief drafting and legal analysis

  • Oral advocacy and appellate courtroom procedure

  • Strategic litigation planning in collaboration with trial teams
