Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm located in Washington, DC, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Associate with a focus on international arbitration. This position is tailored for legal professionals passionate about handling sophisticated, high-value disputes across borders. The role provides an opportunity to be deeply involved in both commercial and investment arbitration, working alongside seasoned practitioners on matters involving multinational corporations and sovereign states. The position also offers space to grow individual professional recognition and advocacy capabilities in a collaborative, non-hierarchical environment.

Duties:

  • Provide strategic advice and representation to clients involved in transnational commercial and treaty-based disputes

  • Collaborate closely with senior attorneys in developing case theories and litigation strategies

  • Draft comprehensive written advocacy, managing contributions from junior team members

  • Conduct and oversee detailed legal research and document review processes

  • Assist in organizing and presenting expert and witness evidence

  • Maintain direct communication with clients, tribunals, experts, and opposing parties

  • Contribute to business development through legal publications, client briefings, and speaking engagements

  • Mentor and support junior associates and legal team members

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 years of legal experience handling complex international arbitration matters

  • Prior exposure to both investment treaty and international commercial arbitrations on preferred

  • Eligibility to practice in the District of Columbia (licensed or as a Special Legal Consultant)

  • Multilingual capabilities are advantageous for international client and tribunal communication

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent international law degree from a recognized institution

  • Strong academic standing from a reputable law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the District of Columbia Bar (or eligibility to gain admission upon hire)

Skills:

  • Exceptional written communication with emphasis on clarity, conciseness, and persuasion

  • Strong legal research and analytical capabilities with attention to detail

  • In-depth understanding of procedural and substantive aspects of international arbitration

  • Skilled in oral advocacy with the ability to present complex legal positions credibly and confidently

  • Effective team leadership and project management within fast-paced, high-stakes environments

  • Ability to build strong rapport and communicate effectively with clients and legal stakeholders
