A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney with 1–3 years of experience to join its expanding Intellectual Property group. Duties

  • Prepare and prosecute domestic and international patent applications

  • Conduct prior art searches and prepare patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses

  • Draft responses to office actions and interact with USPTO examiners

  • Assist with client counseling and intellectual property strategy development

  • Collaborate with inventors and engineers to understand and protect new technologies

  • Support IP due diligence efforts related to corporate transactions

  • Contribute to team knowledge on patent law updates and best practices

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm or corporate setting

  • Mechanical engineering undergraduate degree (required)

  • Demonstrated interest in building a long-term career in IP law

  • Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and meet deadlines

  • Commitment to high-quality client service and professional growth

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

  • Strong academic credentials preferred

Certifications

  • Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

  • Active state bar membership or eligibility to become admitted in relevant jurisdiction

Skills

  • Strong technical writing and legal drafting abilities

  • Excellent research and analytical skills

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to understand complex mechanical inventions and convey them in patent applications

  • Familiarity with patent prosecution tools and systems
