Remote Consumer Debt Defense Attorney – Washington Bar Licensed

Job Overview:
A Southfield, MI-based law firm is seeking a fully remote attorney licensed in Washington State to support consumer clients in debt collection lawsuits. The role focuses primarily on defending clients against claims brought by creditors or debt buyers, often within the context of debt resolution programs. This position blends direct legal representation with limited-scope legal services such as reviewing filings prepared by legal support staff. Complex litigation is infrequent, and attendance at hearings is generally optional, with the alternative of arranging local appearance counsel when needed.

Duties:

• Provide legal defense to clients facing consumer debt collection actions

• Offer limited-scope services, including reviewing and revising draft pleadings

• Communicate with clients regarding legal strategy and settlement options

• Negotiate settlements and payment arrangements with opposing parties

• Oversee or coordinate coverage for any required in-person hearings

• Maintain accurate records and documentation of client interactions and case activities

• Ensure compliance with state-specific legal and ethical guidelines

Requirements:

• Licensed and in good standing with the Washington State Bar

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil litigation

• Familiarity with consumer debt collection laws and processes

• Comfortable working independently in a remote environment

• Ability to collaborate with paralegal staff for efficient case handling

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active license to practice law in the state of Washington (required)

Skills:

• Strong legal writing and document review capabilities

• Proficient in legal research tools and remote collaboration software
