Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Attorney with robust litigation experience to join their remote team in New York, United States. The ideal candidate is articulate, driven, and committed to excellence. While experience in special education or disability rights is not required, a passion for advocating for children and families is essential. New York State Bar admission is mandatory, and experience in the Southern District of New York is highly valued. Duties

  • Represent parents and students in administrative hearings, appeals, and federal court matters.
  • Engage in federal and state court litigation, including complex legal research and drafting.
  • Draft and litigate Due Process Complaints; prepare pleadings, motions, and legal briefs.
  • Develop case strategies and manage evidentiary records.
  • Handle motion practice and conduct in-depth legal research.
  • Negotiate settlements with school districts.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, experts, and opposing counsel.
  • Accurately track and record billable time.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in New York State.
  • Strong litigation skills, including depositions and motion practice.
  • Experience with federal and state court practice; SDNY experience is highly valued.
  • Outstanding legal writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Experience billing and accurately tracking time for legal work.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and client advocacy abilities.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines in a remote environment.

Education

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to practice in New York State or ability to waive into New York.

Skills

  • Strong litigation and legal research skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
