Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Associate Attorney in New York, NY, to join their team specializing in special education law. The role involves managing a diverse caseload and advocating for children with disabilities in administrative proceedings.

Duties

  • Communicate with clients to understand their needs and concerns.
  • Draft notices, affidavits, complaints, and examination questions for hearings.
  • Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel.
  • Represent clients in administrative proceedings, including witness examinations.
  • Draft opening statements and closing briefs.
  • Conduct legal research and draft stipulations of settlement.
  • Prepare appeals to the Office of State Review.
  • Manage paralegals and administrative staff in pre- and post-litigation tasks.

Requirements

  • Litigation experience from inception through resolution.
  • Strong interest in special education law.
  • Excellent organization, writing, and communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
