Job Title: Senior Counsel

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm located in Chicago, IL, is seeking a highly driven and experienced litigation attorney to join its Dispute Resolution Practice as a Senior Litigation Attorney. This role is ideal for a legal professional who thrives in courtroom settings, excels in managing complex construction-related disputes, and possesses a track record of strategic leadership in legal proceedings. The ideal candidate will take charge of cases from inception to resolution while supporting junior team members and contributing to operational process improvements.

Duties:

  • Lead all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motions, depositions, and trial

  • Represent clients in mediations, arbitrations, and court appearances, including first-chair roles

  • Manage disputes related to construction and design law, including mechanics lien enforcement

  • Navigate litigation in the Law and Chancery Divisions of the Circuit Court of Cook County

  • Handle arbitration and mediation proceedings through bodies such as AAA and JAMS

  • Oversee e-discovery processes, litigation holds, and document production

  • Develop and implement legal strategies with minimal oversight

  • Cultivate and maintain client relationships independently

  • Guide, mentor, and oversee the performance of junior attorneys

  • Systematize litigation workflows and contribute to the documentation of repeatable legal processes

  • Adopt and leverage legal technologies to increase efficiency

  • Ensure timely and accurate billing with minimal adjustments or write-offs

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in legal practice with a concentration in construction litigation

  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Illinois

  • Demonstrated ability to manage litigation independently, from drafting complaints to trial

  • Significant experience as lead counsel in arbitration, mediation, and court proceedings

  • Proven capability in mechanics lien enforcement and related statutory claims

  • Strong understanding of civil procedure and local court rules

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active Illinois State Bar License

Skills:
