Biotech Patent Agent

A law firm in Pasadena, CA, is seeking a Biotech Patent Agent with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology or a related field. The ideal candidate will have 1-6 years of experience and will be responsible for assisting with patent prosecution and drafting patent applications in the biotechnology field.

Duties:

• Assist attorneys with patent prosecution, including drafting responses to office actions and preparing amendments.
• Conduct prior art searches and analyze patent and scientific literature.
• Collaborate with inventors and attorneys to identify patentable inventions.
• Draft and review patent applications and related documents.
• Communicate with clients to obtain necessary information and updates.
• Assist with patent portfolio management and strategy.

Requirements:

• PhD in Molecular Biology or a related field.
• 1-6 years of experience in biotechnology patent prosecution.
• Knowledge of USPTO regulations and procedures.
• Strong understanding of molecular biology and biotechnology concepts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.

Education:

• PhD in Molecular Biology or a related field.

Certifications:

• Patent Agent registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is preferred but not required.

Skills:

• Proficiency in conducting prior art searches using patent and scientific databases.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
• Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with inventors, attorneys, and clients.
