Job Overview:
A respected intellectual property law firm is seeking a Patent Agent or Technology Specialist with a strong background in Physics, Optics, or a related technical field. This role is ideal for candidates with 3-5 years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution. A Ph.D. in Physics, Optics, or a related discipline is preferred. The successful candidate will play an essential role in supporting a dynamic IP practice, working with leading-edge technology, and contributing to client relationships in a collaborative and innovative environment.

Location:

  • Boston, Massachusetts

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the areas of Physics, Optics, and related technologies.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to develop patent strategies and provide guidance on IP issues.
  • Conduct patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Prepare and file responses to office actions from patent offices.
  • Assist in preparing and conducting oral hearings and legal arguments.
  • Build and maintain client relationships, advocating for clients at the forefront of science and technology.
  • Work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment to ensure client satisfaction and high-quality service.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution.
  • A Ph.D. degree in Physics, Optics, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to draft clear and concise patent applications.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong technical knowledge and a keen understanding of patent law.

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Optics, or related discipline preferred.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field may also be considered.

Certifications:

  • Patent Agent certification or eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar preferred.
  • Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is a plus.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical aptitude in Physics, Optics, or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of patent prosecution processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
