Job Overview

A law firm seeks a qualified and experienced engineer with a strong technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, software, or physics to join as a Scientific Advisor in the Electrical & Computer Technologies group. This position is based in Boston, Massachusetts, with the option for remote work. The role involves applying technical expertise to support complex Intellectual Property needs while collaborating with attorneys and legal practitioners.

Duties

  • Review technical disclosures to assess patent potential.
  • Participate in client and inventor interviews to understand new inventions.
  • Conduct research in patent databases and non-patent literature.
  • Draft patent applications, including detailed specifications and claims.
  • Assist in developing and drafting responses to USPTO communications.

Requirements

  • Strong academic credentials in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field.
  • 2+ years of industry experience in engineering or related capacity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Sound judgment and collaborative skills with legal practitioners.
  • Eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration examination.

Education

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field.

  • Eligibility for USPTO registration examination.
