A law firm in Georgetown, Texas is seeking an Immigration Associate Attorney to join their team. The candidate will be responsible for working on various types of immigration applications and will help supervise and serve as a legal resource to the Intake Team and other teams within the firm. The ideal candidate should have experience working with non-legal staff, especially in family and humanitarian immigration law. Training will be provided, but more important is having a passion to help as many immigrants without documentation legalize their status as possible. The role involves creatively identifying immigration relief options, strategizing on advocacy for clients, preparing for and attending USCIS interviews, providing leadership and support to the paralegal team, answering legal questions from support teams, reviewing and editing USCIS applications, staying informed about immigration law changes, and providing strategic insight to improve legal processes. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is required.

 

Duties:

  • Work on various types of immigration applications.
  • Supervise and serve as a legal resource to the Intake Team and other teams.
  • Experience working with non-legal staff.
  • Creatively identify immigration relief options for clients.
  • Strategize on advocating for clients and resolving challenging immigration questions.
  • Prepare clients for and attend interviews with USCIS.
  • Provide leadership, support, and training to the paralegal team and non-lawyer staff.
  • Provide training on, monitor, and enforce ethical obligations for non-lawyer team members.
  • Answer legal questions from legal support teams.
  • Review and edit USCIS applications and supporting materials.
  • Stay informed about legislative, regulatory, administrative, and case law changes.
  • Provide strategic insight on case processing and look for ways to improve legal processes.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active member in good standing of a State Bar.
  • Experience working with, training, and supervising non-lawyer staff.
  • Previous experience in an immigration law firm handling humanitarian and family-based visas applications (e.g., VAWA, T-Visa, U-Visa, Asylum, Medical DA, I-601, DS-260, DS-160, I-130, N-400) is a plus.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school (Required)

 

Certifications:

Active member in good standing of a State Bar (Required)
