MUNICIPAL LAW
The Firm provides a wide range of services to municipal clients, including services as Town Counsel and as Special Counsel. Those services include, among others, advice and opinions to various municipal officials and boards, as well as representation in administrative and court proceedings. Special counsel services include those related to land use litigation involving zoning boards, planning boards, boards of health and conservation commissions, the defense of civil rights actions alleging regulatory takings and excessive police force, contract disputes and police disciplinary matters.

ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION
The Firm is frequently involved in the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to resolve disputes. The Firm has provided services in over 1000 cases as a mediator, arbitrator, facilitator, case evaluator, and master and as a member of a Dispute Review Board in order to assist parties in the efficient, equitable and expeditious resolution of disputes. The Firm has particular experience in handling design and construction, professional liability insurance, employment and environmental disputes. The Firm is represented on the National Panel of Arbitrators and Mediators of the American Arbitration Association, and a member of the Firm has been appointed by Judges of the Superior Courts in Suffolk, Middlesex and Worcester Counties to serve as a Master, Arbitrator, Auditor and/or Mediator.

CIVIL LITIGATION
A significant aspect of the Firm's practice has traditionally been its broad experience in civil litigation. The founding partners of the Firm have extensive experience as litigators before state and federal trial and appellate courts. They have also represented clients in arbitrations, mediations and administrative proceedings before local, state and federal administrative agencies. While the members of the Firm have litigated a wide variety of cases, it is the total commitment to organization and attention to detail and the vast training and experience in all aspects of the litigation process which has allowed the Firm to serve its clients well and achieve positive results.

ENVIRONMENTAL LAW
The Firm assists its clients in assessing and managing potential liabilities associated with developing, operating and marketing environmentally-impacted properties. The Firm also represents its clients in environmental litigation and administrative proceedings presenting issues under a variety of state and federal environmental laws including CERCLA (Superfund), Mass. Gen. Laws Chapters 21C and 21E, and in disputes regarding insurance coverage for environmental claims.

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
Members of the Firm have extensive experience matters relating to all aspects of the design and construction process, including drafting of transactional documents and litigation of design and construction cases. We have represented owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, subcontractors, material suppliers, lenders, insurers and surety companies.

LAND USE AND ZONING
The Firm has extensive experience and expertise in land use, zoning and subdivision issues, as well as in providing litigation services related thereto. The Firm's practice in these areas is wide-ranging and includes, among other things, the issuance of zoning opinions or analyses; the handling of appeals from municipal special permit and variance decisions, from local zoning decisions, and from subdivision and "approval not required" decisions; and the prosecution and defense of boundary disputes, title disputes, and easement litigation. Not only have members of the Firm authored authoritative texts on these subjects, they have authored course materials and taught numerous seminars to other attorneys in these areas of practice.

EDUCATION
The Firm has served as general counsel to several independent schools in the Boston metropolitan area. As such, the Firm has handled the myriad of issues facing independent schools, including employment litigation and disputes, special education matters, review and drafting of employee and school handbooks and policies, conducting of confidential investigations involving harassment allegations and other sensitive matters, resolution of construction disputes, drafting of loan and other real estate documents to effectuate a major construction and expansion project, and rendering general advise to Heads of School and Boards of Trustees. A member of the Firm has also conducted seminars for educational organizations, including the Association of Independent Schools of New England.

REAL ESTATE
The Firm's real estate practice includes conveyancing, asserting and defending title claims, land use controls such as zoning, restrictions, environmental or historical districts, commercial, industrial and residential developments, land assembly and title examinations, construction and permanent real estate mortgage financing, mortgage foreclosures, leases and real estate and landlord-tenant litigation
