Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Local Government Law Attorney to join their Richmond, Virginia office. This role offers the opportunity to practice local government law while enjoying the benefits of private practice. Duties

  • Advise local governments on legal matters including governance, contracts, land use, and public meetings.
  • Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, and legal opinions.
  • Represent localities in administrative and legal proceedings.
  • Stay current on legal developments affecting municipal clients.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and staff across offices to deliver integrated legal services.

Requirements

  • Active member of the Virginia State Bar.
  • Five or more years of experience practicing Local Government Law in Virginia.
  • Strong understanding of municipal operations, FOIA, zoning, procurement, governance, and public meetings.
  • Existing relationships or experience with localities in Hampton Roads is a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active Virginia State Bar membership.
