Job Overview

A respected law practice based in Oakland, CA is expanding its estate planning division and seeks a dedicated attorney with specialized knowledge in trust-based planning and asset preservation. This role involves direct interaction with clients to develop and revise legal strategies tailored to individual estates, ensuring legal documents reflect clients’ intentions and comply with applicable laws. The position is based fully on-site.

Duties

  • Hold one-on-one consultations with new and existing clients to understand their goals and gather relevant personal and financial data

  • Recommend tailored estate planning strategies aligned with client priorities and legal requirements

  • Review and revise existing estate plans to reflect updates in circumstances, laws, or client wishes

  • Manage the client intake, engagement, and onboarding process including document execution and payment coordination

  • Oversee the preparation and finalization of legal documents such as wills, trusts, and related directives

  • Conduct comprehensive plan review sessions with clients to explain legal structures and answer questions

  • Collaborate with affiliated financial professionals where appropriate and manage related consent documentation

  • Maintain detailed notes for all client communications and store them securely within client records

  • Utilize internal systems (e.g., task tracking tools, case management software) to manage workflow and deadlines

  • Participate in team meetings including advanced planning discussions and regular departmental check-ins

  • Contribute to the development of internal processes and participate in training and knowledge-sharing sessions

  • Address client inquiries through phone or email in a timely and professional manner

  • Support additional estate planning projects and contribute to firm initiatives as assigned

Requirements

  • 3 years of focused experience in estate planning law

  • Deep understanding of California-specific estate planning rules and tax considerations (income, estate, and gift tax)

  • Prior work with high-net-worth individuals and complex estate structures preferred

  • Familiarity with practice management platforms and digital signature tools

  • Notary Public designation preferred

Education

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school

  • Active membership in the California State Bar
