Job Overview:
A respected Texas-based law firm is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to join its municipal and local government practice in Austin. The role focuses on serving as a Municipal Court Prosecutor, representing city governments in the prosecution of Class C misdemeanors and ordinance violations. This opportunity offers direct client interaction, courtroom advocacy, and a meaningful role in supporting public safety and local governance.

Location:

  • Austin, TX

Duties:

  • Represent municipalities in the prosecution of Class C misdemeanors, including traffic offenses, theft, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct

  • Handle municipal ordinance violations and administrative proceedings such as parking appeals, stormwater violations, and bond forfeitures

  • Conduct legal research and draft legal documents including motions, pleadings, and memoranda

  • Appear in court for hearings, trials, and other proceedings

  • Provide legal counsel and support to city officials and municipal departments

  • Negotiate settlements and plea agreements as appropriate

  • Attend governing body meetings and advise on legal matters

Requirements:

  • 1–3 years of legal experience in a law firm, governmental agency, or similar legal setting

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and in good standing with the Texas Bar

  • Ability to manage a docket, meet deadlines, and handle a variety of legal proceedings

  • Interest in or experience with municipal and government-related law (preferred)

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active Texas State Bar license (required)

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and legal research capabilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Comfortable with courtroom procedures and public speaking

  • Detail-oriented and organized in handling caseloads

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
