Job Overview
A prominent law firm is seeking a lateral associate to join its Labor & Employment team in Los Angeles. This position focuses primarily on employer-side litigation, with a secondary emphasis on advice and investigations work. The ideal candidate will have experience with class and representative actions, particularly in the areas of wage and hour law and discrimination. Experience in class actions will be beneficial. Candidates with 3+ years of experience in a peer law firm handling employment law matters are encouraged to apply.

Duties

  • Represent clients in employer-side litigation, particularly class and representative actions related to wage and hour issues and discrimination.
  • Provide legal advice and conduct investigations for employers in labor and employment matters.
  • Draft and respond to motions, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • Handle discovery, including depositions, document review, and interrogatories.
  • Participate in client meetings and advise on labor and employment law matters.
  • Collaborate with other team members on complex litigation and employment law issues.

Requirements

  • Law school class years 2017 to 2021.
  • 3+ years of experience in labor and employment law, preferably with class action litigation experience.
  • Strong understanding of wage and hour laws, as well as discrimination law.
  • Experience representing employers in employment-related litigation and investigations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Education

  • J.D. (Juris Doctor) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in California or eligibility to obtain California bar admission promptly.

Skills

  • Strong litigation and motion practice skills.
  • Experience with class and representative actions.
  • Ability to provide strategic advice on labor and employment matters.
  • Knowledge of wage and hour laws, as well as discrimination law.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
