Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A reputable law firm located in San Jose, CA is actively seeking a skilled Associate Attorney with a broad-based legal background. This position involves hands-on experience across multiple practice areas, including family law, civil litigation, personal injury, business disputes, and criminal defense. The role is best suited for a proactive legal professional eager to manage an independent caseload, contribute to complex legal strategies, and appear in court and client-facing settings.

Duties:

  • Manage a varied caseload spanning family, civil, business, criminal, and personal injury matters

  • Conduct case evaluations and develop legal strategies tailored to each client’s situation

  • Prepare legal briefs, memos, motions, and comprehensive filings for court and administrative proceedings

  • Attend and participate in depositions, hearings, client conferences, and expert consultations

  • Perform in-depth legal research and stay informed on applicable legal precedents and statutory developments

  • Draft a wide range of legal documents, including pleadings, contracts, and settlement agreements

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on sophisticated legal issues and litigation planning

  • Supervise and guide support staff, including paralegals and legal assistants

  • Engage with clients directly to advise on legal options and secure authorization for strategic actions

Requirements:

  • Experience practicing law across multiple legal domains

  • Demonstrated experience managing independent caseloads from intake through resolution

  • Prior courtroom experience, including motion practice and hearings

  • Strong legal writing and research skills

  • Capable of working both autonomously and collaboratively in a team setting

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar of California in good standing

Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of California laws in areas such as civil litigation, family, criminal defense, and business law

  • Proficiency in legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw)

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities

  • Strategic thinking with meticulous attention to detail
