Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Nursing Home Defense, Medical Malpractice, and General Litigation team. This full-time, office-based position is located in Downtown Chicago and requires attendance in the office. The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting with legal research, drafting legal documents, conducting depositions, and representing clients in various legal proceedings. The firm is looking for a motivated individual who can work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Location:

  • Chicago, IL

Duties:

  • Draft legal documents, including motions, pleadings, and settlement agreements.

  • Assist with the discovery process, including answering and issuing written discovery, administering depositions, and examining documents.

  • Negotiate settlements and provide strategic legal advice.

  • Conduct legal research to support case preparation.

  • Make court appearances as needed.

  • Conduct and summarize depositions.

  • Communicate complex information effectively to clients, courts, and stakeholders.

  • Maintain and nurture client relationships.

  • Work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

  • Prioritize and meet multiple competing deadlines.

Requirements:

  • JD degree from an accredited US law school.

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois or have recently taken the Illinois Bar exam and awaiting results.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work with highly confidential and privileged information.

  • Experience or familiarity with billing software.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois or awaiting Illinois Bar exam results.

Skills:

  • Excellent persuasive writing and communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for maintaining relationships with clients and colleagues.

  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Familiarity with legal billing software.
