Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a skilled Labor and Employment Attorney to join its Employment Law Section. This role involves providing strategic guidance to employers, drafting key legal documents, and defending against employment-related claims and litigation nationwide. Location:

  • Metairie, LA

Duties:

  • Provide day-to-day legal counsel to employers on workplace and personnel matters

  • Conduct and document internal investigations with confidentiality and legal compliance

  • Draft and review employment policies, handbooks, and severance agreements

  • Defend employers in employment and wage & hour litigation (single plaintiff to class actions)

  • Respond to regulatory complaints from federal, state, and local agencies

  • Conduct audits for wage/hour compliance and employee classification

  • Assist with affirmative action plan compliance under O.F.C.C.P. guidelines

  • Draft and negotiate executive employment agreements, non-competes, and arbitration clauses

  • Analyze pay equity, hiring practices, and potential discriminatory impacts

  • Deliver legal training on topics such as harassment prevention, FMLA, and wage laws

  • Support mergers and acquisitions with due diligence on employment risks

  • Advise on WARN Act obligations and workforce reduction protocols

  • Conduct Form I-9 audits and training to prepare for ICE or related inspections

Requirements:

  • Strong interest in employment law and employer defense

  • Ability to manage a large caseload and prioritize effectively

  • Exceptional research and analytical skills

  • Strong written and oral communication abilities

  • Comfort working in a paperless, tech-driven environment

  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. state

  • Additional state bar admissions and federal court admissions are a plus

Skills:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office

  • Familiarity with employment law compliance, litigation, or insurance coverage

  • Law review, moot court participation, or top 50% law school class ranking preferred
