A law firm seeks a Family Law Attorney to join their domestic litigation team in Columbia, MO. The ideal candidate will have two to four years of experience in complex family law matters or demonstrable civil litigation experience. This role involves handling diverse family law cases, requiring strong litigation skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Duties

  • Serve as second chair in high-net-worth family law cases, providing litigation support and strategic input.
  • Handle a wide range of family law matters, including divorce, custody disputes, and domestic abuse cases.
  • Engage in regular communication with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, including motion hearings, mediations, and trials.
  • Manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously, adapting to shifting legal strategies.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and draft persuasive legal documents.
  • Perform billable work efficiently, with a strong grasp of billing practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience in civil litigation required; additional experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in family law preferred but not required.
  • Strong courtroom and litigation skills are essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to handle large caseloads and juggle multiple priorities is crucial.
  • Experience in negotiation and dispute resolution is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team and handle sensitive matters with discretion.

Education

  • Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Member in good standing with the Missouri Bar or a jurisdiction with reciprocity with Missouri.
