Job Overview:
A law firm based in Rochester, NY is seeking a driven Associate Attorney with 2-5 years of post-JD experience to join its hybrid team. This opportunity involves a broad mix of construction-related disputes, commercial litigation, and corporate advisory work. Candidates with courtroom, litigation drafting, or ADR experience are strongly encouraged to apply, although newly licensed attorneys with strong credentials will also be considered.

Duties:

• Represent clients in disputes involving construction contracts, commercial transactions, and related legal issues

• Draft and review pleadings, legal memoranda, and discovery documents

• Argue motions and appear in state and federal court proceedings

• Conduct and defend depositions and participate in witness examination

• Negotiate settlements through informal channels and formal ADR methods

• Maintain direct client communication and case strategy coordination

• Manage litigation timelines, case files, and related legal documentation

• Collaborate with other attorneys on multi-jurisdictional or complex matters

Requirements:

• 2-5 years of legal practice, ideally in construction or commercial litigation

• Admitted to the New York State Bar or eligible through reciprocity/jurisdictional motion

• Capable of managing active caseloads and court appearances with minimal oversight

• Demonstrated experience in legal writing, research, and courtroom advocacy

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface directly with clients

• Comfortable working in a hybrid office environment

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school or equivalent foreign legal education

Certifications:

• Active Bar membership in New York, or eligibility for admission by motion.

Skills:

• Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw or Lexis

• Advanced written and verbal communication skills

• Sound legal analysis and problem-solving abilities

• Skilled in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat

• Familiarity with litigation management practices

There are three key areas of practice. Disciplines are surety, construction-risk management and complex commercial litigation. They're an AV rated firm.
