Job Overview

A premier national law firm is seeking a Principal Attorney specializing in franchise law to join its Business Practice Group. This is a unique opportunity for an attorney with extensive franchise experience and a portable book of business to advise both franchisors and franchisees on a wide range of transactional, compliance, and regulatory matters. The role offers a collaborative environment with the ability to work across multiple office locations and practice areas.

Location

Duties

  • Represent franchisors, franchisees, manufacturers, and distributors involved in licensing and franchising activities

  • Draft and negotiate franchise disclosure documents, franchise agreements, and related documentation

  • Provide counseling on franchise compliance, disclosure regulations, and registration requirements

  • Advise on franchise relationship issues, terminations, renewals, and transfers

  • Handle governmental inquiries and regulatory enforcement actions related to franchise operations

  • Support litigation teams in franchise-related disputes as needed

  • Collaborate with attorneys across practice areas to deliver integrated legal solutions

  • Participate in client development activities and strategic growth initiatives

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in franchise law, including drafting and negotiating franchise documents, advising on compliance, and handling regulatory inquiries

  • Portable book of business (full or partial) required

  • Proven ability to independently manage complex franchise matters

  • Strong client relationship management and business development skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational capabilities

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law

Skills

  • Expertise in franchise regulatory law at both the federal and state levels

  • Knowledge of franchise disclosure, registration, and compliance requirements

  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and dispute resolution abilities

  • Analytical thinker with practical problem-solving skills

  • Excellent legal writing, communication, and client advisory capabilities

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
