Job Overview

An established and fast-growing criminal defense law firm in Kansas City is seeking a highly motivated Criminal Defense Associate Attorney. This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of criminal and DWI cases, advocating for individuals who deserve a second chance. The ideal candidate will be passionate about client advocacy, have substantial courtroom experience, and be committed to delivering exceptional results.

Location

  • Kansas City, Missouri

Duties

  • Communicate empathetically and professionally with clients

  • Argue persuasively in front of juries and judges

  • Negotiate passionately to achieve the best possible outcomes for clients

  • Conduct strategic case analysis and develop effective case strategies

  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and briefs

  • Represent clients at hearings, trials, mediations, and settlement conferences

  • Maintain detailed documentation of all case activities

  • Set legal strategies and provide sound legal advice

  • Engage in depositions, witness interviews, and client consultations

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in criminal defense

  • Licensed to practice law in Missouri and Kansas

  • First-chair jury trial experience preferred

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision

  • Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic and commitment to client service

  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active licenses to practice law in both Missouri and Kansas

Skills

  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills

  • Exceptional public speaking and persuasion abilities

  • Strategic thinking and case analysis expertise

  • High emotional intelligence and ability to manage clients in stressful situations

  • Organizational skills to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines

  • Technological proficiency with Mac systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and preferred experience with Clio Manage and Clio Grow
