Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Senior Associate Attorney or Counsel to join its Intellectual Property practice in Providence, RI. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Patent Prosecution & Counseling team to support a variety of intellectual property matters, focusing on mechanical, electrical, and computer arts.

Duties

Evaluate the patentability of innovations in mechanical, electrical, and related technology fields.
Prepare and prosecute U.S. patent applications and coordinate with foreign counsel on international filings.
Manage IP due diligence projects and strategic portfolio management.
Represent clients in post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Conduct legal and technical research and analysis on patent and IP issues, including FTO, validity, and infringement opinions.
Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and business teams to develop and execute IP strategies.
Serve as a liaison for interdepartmental initiatives and interact with outside counsel.

Requirements

Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical or electrical patent prosecution, preferably in a law firm setting.
State bar admission in good standing.
Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Experience with post-grant proceedings before the USPTO preferred.
Diligence experience required.
Strong technical background in mechanical, electrical, or related scientific disciplines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Education

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

State bar admission.
USPTO registration.

Skills

Strong analytical and research skills.
Proficiency in patent law and IP strategy development.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
