Job Overview:
A well-established Pacific Northwest law firm is seeking an experienced Municipal Attorney to join its Wenatchee, Washington office. This position will serve as City Attorney or Assistant City Attorney for various municipal clients. The role involves advising city officials, attending public meetings, and providing legal counsel on a wide range of municipal issues including land use, public contracting, ethics, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in municipal law and a demonstrated ability to serve as lead counsel for government entities.

Location:

  • Wenatchee, Washington

Duties:

  • Provide legal advice and support to city councils, mayors, boards, commissions, and municipal staff

  • Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, policies, and agenda bills

  • Research and analyze legal issues and prepare formal legal opinions

  • Ensure client compliance with state, federal, and local laws

  • Represent municipal clients in litigation, administrative hearings, and appeals

  • Handle legal review of documents under the Public Records Act

  • Attend council, board, and commission meetings as legal counsel

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, deeds, leases, bid documents, interlocal agreements, easements, and bonds

  • Maintain professional, timely, and courteous communication with clients

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in municipal law or related public-sector legal practice

  • Experience serving as lead or assistant legal counsel for a city, county, public utility, or similar government entity

  • Demonstrated expertise in areas such as land use and zoning, public records, open government, public bidding, contracting, and municipal ethics

  • Ability to manage multiple municipal clients and work effectively in public and legal environments

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Washington State Bar, or eligibility for Washington licensure within one month of hire

Skills:

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical capabilities

  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills

  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage a diverse caseload

  • Team-oriented approach with a strong sense of professional responsibility

  • Ability to think critically and communicate complex legal information clearly

  • High attention to detail and organizational efficiency
