A law firm located in Houston, TX is seeking an Associate Attorney to handle collection and litigation matters. The successful candidate will possess excellent written, analytical, and oral advocacy skills and will manage breach of contract and collection litigation from demand through judgment. Responsibilities include attending court hearings, preparing and arguing Motions for Summary Judgment, and managing an assigned caseload to meet goals and client expectations. The role also involves handling escalated and time-sensitive matters and performing other duties and special projects as needed.

Duties:

  • Handle breach of contract and collection litigation matters from initial demand through final judgment.
  • Attend court hearings, including both telephonic and in-person appearances.
  • Prepare and argue Motions for Summary Judgment.
  • Manage an assigned caseload to meet goals and client expectations effectively.
  • Address escalated and time-sensitive matters as required.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in the state of California; multi-jurisdictional admission in AZ, CA, NV, and TX is preferred.
  • Experience with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong research skills, including the use of both legal and non-legal sources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a large caseload effectively.
  • Capability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Conscientious regarding work completion, deadlines, time management, and attendance.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice law in the state of California (multi-jurisdictional admission in AZ, CA, NV, and TX preferred).
