A law firm seeks a skilled Patent Agent to join its prestigious team in Tucson, AZ, supporting the Patent Prosecution & Litigation practice. The ideal candidate will have experience in drafting patent applications and handling prosecution for mechanical or electrical engineering technologies. This role is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a collaborative team, offering expertise in patent law for a diverse set of technologies. Duties

  • Draft and file patent applications for mechanical, electrical, or related technologies.
  • Work closely with inventors and clients to assess and capture innovative technologies.
  • Conduct patent searches and provide patentability opinions.
  • Review and respond to Office Actions from the USPTO.
  • Collaborate with legal teams to develop strategies for intellectual property portfolio management.
  • Assist in the preparation of documents for patent litigation, when necessary.
  • Maintain and manage patent prosecution matters, ensuring timely filing and compliance.

Requirements

  • 3 to 6 years of experience in patent prosecution, including drafting patent applications.
  • Expertise in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related technical field such as mathematics or physics.
  • Knowledge of other intellectual property forms and related legal frameworks is a plus.
  • Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Education

  • A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field such as mathematics or physics.

Certifications

  • USPTO registration is required.

Skills

  • Expertise in patent law and intellectual property management.
  • Strong technical writing skills, particularly in preparing patent applications and responding to office actions.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly and effectively to clients and team members.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage a large volume of cases efficiently.
