Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Intellectual Property (Patent) Associate in Newark. The role involves managing U.S. and foreign patent portfolios related to small molecules and biologicals, providing strategic patent law counseling, and supporting patent litigations.

Duties

  • Draft, prosecute, and manage patent portfolios for small molecules and biologicals.
  • Provide strategic counseling on patent law, including exclusivity positions and opinions.
  • Participate in and support patent litigations, including ANDA litigations.
  • Collaborate with clients to identify and protect new intellectual property.
  • Educate clients' teams on intellectual property matters.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of patent experience in pharmaceutical/biotech/life science.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Experience as an in-house lawyer in small molecule chemistry is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for addressing complex IP issues.
  • Experience in drafting and prosecuting pharmaceutical patent applications globally.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects.

Education

  • Advanced degree in chemistry, biology, immunology, or biochemistry preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree with additional experience as a practicing patent attorney considered.

Certifications

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to distill complexity and communicate decisively.
