Job Overview

A law firm seeks a dedicated Social Security Disability Attorney to join their team in North Carolina. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the community while working in a supportive and collaborative environment. The position is open to various locations within the state, including Durham, Greensboro, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem.

Duties

  • Personally handle a caseload of Social Security disability cases from initial through the hearing level.
  • Assist and provide guidance to paralegals with their Social Security disability caseloads.
  • Handle extensive client interaction, including intake review and subsequent communications.
  • Read and summarize voluminous medical records.
  • Prepare briefs and requests for on the record decisions to achieve successful resolutions on behalf of clients.
  • Prepare clients for hearings and appear before Administrative Law Judges to advocate on behalf of disabled clients.
  • Conduct opening and closing statements, cross-examination of vocational witnesses, and maintain thorough familiarity with the record of each case.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed in any state and in good standing with the State Bar.
  • Two plus years of experience practicing Social Security Disability Law.
  • Advanced analytical skills and strong writing skills.
  • Deadline-oriented with strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment focusing on teamwork.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effectively shows empathy to claimants.
  • Upbeat with a can-do attitude; must be able to work independently and have a desire to assume significant responsibility.
  • Understanding of Social Security regulations, POMS, HALLEX, and other related matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
