Job Overview: A law firm based in New York City, NY, is seeking a Patent Agent / Technology Specialist with 2-3 years of experience to join its team. The ideal candidate will have a background in wireless engineering, electrical and computer engineering, or a related field and possess strong patent prosecution experience. This role demands excellent academic credentials and exceptional communication skills, with a preference for candidates experienced in cellular networking technologies.

Duties:

  • Conduct patent prosecution, including preparing and filing patent applications, responses to office actions, and appeals.
  • Analyze and interpret complex technological and engineering concepts to ensure accurate patent filings.
  • Provide technical support and expertise in patent matters to attorneys and clients.
  • Perform patent searches and prepare opinions on patentability, freedom to operate, and infringement.
  • Collaborate with inventors and technical experts to draft and review patent applications.
  • Stay current with patent law and technology developments to ensure the firm’s practices remain current.
  • Assist in the development of patent strategies and portfolio management.

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Background in wireless engineering, electrical and computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong academic credentials with a demonstrated ability to handle complex technical material.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with cellular networking technologies is strongly preferred.

Education:

  • Master’s degree (M.S. or M.Eng.) in a relevant field or equivalent industry experience.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent prosecution and related legal processes.
  • Strong technical understanding of wireless, electrical, and computer engineering.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex patent and technology issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and legal professionals.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
