Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Immigration Attorney in Montpelier, VT, with a strong background in Mandamus actions and federal litigation. The attorney will represent clients facing unreasonable delays in immigration applications or petitions by USCIS or other government agencies. This role demands excellent research, writing, and advocacy skills, along with the ability to manage a high-volume caseload in a fast-paced environment.

Duties

  • Explain immigration concepts and present strategic solutions.
  • Handle federal court litigation, focusing on Writs of Mandamus and APA lawsuits.
  • Represent individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a workload of cases efficiently.
  • Conduct intake with detained individuals at centers.
  • Prepare diverse immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions.
  • Review and adjust immigration applications/packets as necessary.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and community organizations on immigration law changes.
  • Meet with potential clients for strategic consultations and determine necessary strategies.
  • Develop strategies and prepare clients/witnesses for court/USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to determine possible case benefits.
  • Prepare and submit legal briefs for various immigration cases.

Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in Immigration Law.
  • Team player open to collaboration and strategizing with associates.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
  • 2+ years of experience in immigration law, with at least 1 year handling Mandamus and APA litigation preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload effectively.
  • Experience with Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian, EOIR, Detained, Citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
  • Experience with Case Management Software is preferred.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in the United States.
