A law firm seeks a dedicated General Practice Attorney to join its Canandaigua, NY, office. In this role, you will handle a diverse caseload spanning real estate, business, estate planning, and general litigation matters. Occasional travel to the Geneva, NY office may be required.

Duties

  • Conduct client consultations and manage individual case files from intake through resolution

  • Prepare and file pleadings, motions, and other court documents (experience with NYSCEF preferred)

  • Oversee residential and commercial real estate transactions, including closings and related filings

  • Handle eviction proceedings and landlord-tenant matters

  • Facilitate the execution of wills and trust documents, and conduct estate administration tasks

  • Draft business formation documents, advise on corporate governance, and represent clients in related hearings

  • Represent clients in court appearances, including trials, hearings, and administrative proceedings

  • Supervise support staff, delegate tasks, and provide clear guidance to ensure efficient workflow

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar

  • Minimum of one year of post-bar legal practice

  • Demonstrated experience in:

    • Real estate transactions (residential and commercial buys/sells, leases)

    • Eviction proceedings

    • Estate planning, administration, and related litigation

    • General business law and business-related litigation

  • Proficiency in e-filing with the NYS Courts Electronic Filing (NYSCEF) system preferred

  • Ability to work independently, exercise professional judgment, and lead a collaborative team environment

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications

  • Active membership in the New York State Bar

Skills

  • Strong legal research and writing abilities

  • Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple case files

  • Proficient user of:

    • NYSCEF e-filing system

    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and cloud-based file management tools (e.g., OneDrive)

    • CLIO (or similar practice management/billing software)

    • PDF scanning and document conversion tools

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a client-focused mindset

  • Leadership aptitude to mentor and coordinate support staff effectively
