Job Overview

A highly regarded national law firm is seeking a Principal Attorney specializing in international trade law to join its Business Practice Group. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with significant experience in customs compliance, trade regulations, and global market transactions who also maintains a portable book of business. The successful candidate will work closely with a dynamic team serving some of the country’s leading businesses engaged in cross-border trade, offering sophisticated counsel across a wide range of sectors.

Location

  • Seattle, WA

Duties

  • Advise clients on customs compliance, tariff classification, valuation, and transfer pricing matters

  • Counsel clients on forced labor compliance and enforcement actions involving antidumping and countervailing duties

  • Navigate clients through complex international trade regulations and enforcement actions

  • Support clients in customs audits, investigations, and trade-related disputes

  • Provide strategic advice on the implications of U.S. and international trade agreements

  • Assist in developing internal compliance programs for corporate clients

  • Draft and review documentation related to customs filings, trade enforcement proceedings, and regulatory compliance

  • Collaborate across practice groups on multi-disciplinary matters involving global transactions

  • Maintain and grow client relationships through strategic business development initiatives

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience advising on customs, import control, tariff classification, valuation, transfer pricing, audits, forced labor compliance, and trade enforcement matters

  • Portable book of business required

  • Strong understanding of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processes, Department of Commerce regulations, and international trade law frameworks

  • Ability to manage multiple, complex projects and client portfolios independently

  • Excellent client service approach and collaboration skills

  • Responsive and professional communication style

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law

Skills

  • Expertise in international trade regulations and customs enforcement

  • Excellent legal writing, research, and analytical abilities

  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to lead customs audits, prepare compliance programs, and advise on enforcement proceedings
