Job Overview:
A respected law firm in Florida is seeking a Local Government Attorney with at least 3 years of experience to join its Local Government Practice Group in Fort Myers. This full-time role involves advising municipal clients on a range of legal matters, including public contracts, ethics, open government laws, and procurement issues. Ideal candidates will possess strong analytical skills, practical experience in government operations, and the ability to engage with public entities in various settings.

Location:

  • Fort Myers, FL

Duties:

  • Advise municipalities and local government entities on legal compliance and policy

  • Review and draft government contracts and procurement documents

  • Provide counsel on Sunshine Law and public records compliance

  • Address ethics regulations and governance matters

  • Attend and support public meetings, hearings, and municipal board sessions

  • Represent local government clients in administrative and regulatory matters

  • Coordinate with firm partners and public officials on legal strategies and implementation

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in local government law

  • Working knowledge of Florida government statutes and regulatory structures

  • Ability to manage a range of legal matters independently and efficiently

  • Litigation experience is a plus

  • Willingness and ability to travel for government-related functions

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active member of the Florida Bar in good standing

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and drafting capabilities

  • Familiarity with municipal operations, ethics, and procurement law

  • Effective public speaking and interpersonal communication

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to build relationships with government officials and agency staff
