Job Overview:
A reputable law firm is seeking a mid-level Construction Litigation Associate for its Chicago office. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of business litigation experience, some exposure to construction law, and a background in engineering or technical fields. This role requires experience with managing large document collections, electronic discovery, and litigation support.

Location:
Chicago, Illinois

Duties:

  • Handle commercial construction litigation matters, including delay and impact claims, mechanics lien claims, and construction surety bond claims.

  • Negotiate and draft design and construction agreements.

  • Manage construction defect claims and insurance coverage issues related to construction claims.

  • Represent design professionals in legal proceedings.

  • Conduct depositions, pretrial preparations, and trial representation as needed.

  • Oversee the investigation, management, and discovery of large collections of documents and data files.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent business litigation experience.

  • Exposure to construction law is preferred.

  • Strong writing skills and excellent academic credentials.

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois.

  • Experience with electronic discovery processes.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Illinois Bar license.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing abilities.

  • Excellent negotiation and drafting skills for construction agreements.

  • Ability to manage complex litigation matters effectively.

  • Technical background in design or construction is a plus.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
