Job Overview

A law firm seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Appellate & Motion Practice Attorney in White Plains, NY. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in appellate matters, complex motion practice, or related litigation support. This role requires strong judgment, professional communication skills, and a polished writing style, with the ability to manage assignments independently.

Duties

  • Draft and edit appellate briefs, motions, and memoranda of law.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and develop persuasive arguments.
  • Review trial records to identify appealable issues.
  • Prepare motions to dismiss and for summary judgment.
  • Assist trial teams with legal issue analysis and strategic motions.
  • Manage deadlines and procedural requirements across jurisdictions.
  • Participate in oral arguments and support senior attorneys.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and adhere to guidelines.
  • Record and maintain billable hours accurately.

Requirements

  • Admission to practice in the State of New York (Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania are a plus).
  • Federal Court and appellate court experience preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in appellate work or complex legal research.
  • Exceptional writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Experience drafting substantive motions and briefs.
  • Trial or litigation support experience is a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the New York State Bar.

Skills

  • Strong judgment and professional communication skills.
  • Polished writing style and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage assignments independently.
