Job Overview

A full-service law firm in Orlando, Florida is seeking a full-time Immigration & Criminal Defense Attorney to join its legal team. This role is ideal for a motivated attorney with a passion for both immigration and criminal defense work. The position involves handling a mixed caseload, including removal defense, family-based immigration, and representation in state and federal criminal courts. The attorney will work closely with clients, paralegals, and other staff to ensure timely and effective representation.

Location

  • Orlando, Florida

Duties

  • Represent clients in immigration court for removal and deportation proceedings

  • Prepare and file immigration petitions and applications, including:

    • Family-based petitions

    • Asylum claims

    • Waivers

    • U visas, T visas

    • Adjustment of status

    • Naturalization

  • Represent clients in state and federal criminal courts for both misdemeanors and felonies

  • Draft legal motions, briefs, and memoranda in support of both immigration and criminal matters

  • Develop case strategies tailored to each client’s legal situation

  • Advise non-citizen clients on immigration consequences of criminal charges (Crimmigration)

  • Prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and USCIS interviews

  • Attend USCIS, EOIR, and ICE proceedings

  • Collaborate with paralegals, interpreters, and administrative staff to manage caseloads and deadlines

Requirements

  • Experience in immigration and/or criminal law (preferred)

  • Strong advocacy and litigation skills

  • Excellent research, writing, and negotiation capabilities

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team

  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish preferred but not required)

  • Strong commitment to client service and ethical practice

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school or foreign equivalent

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Florida

  • Must be in good standing with the Florida Bar

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. immigration law and Florida criminal law

  • Legal writing and motion practice

  • Courtroom advocacy and trial preparation

  • Case strategy and procedural planning

  • Client counseling and public speaking

  • Ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive matters effectively
