Job Overview:
A respected law firm is seeking a talented and motivated Environmental Associate Attorney with 4–6 years of experience to join its Energy and Environmental practice team. The role focuses on environmental enforcement, regulatory compliance, and transactional support, offering a dynamic opportunity for attorneys passionate about environmental law and energy regulation.

Location:

  • Lansing, Michigan

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on environmental enforcement actions

  • Advise clients on regulatory compliance with state and federal environmental laws

  • Support environmental aspects of transactional matters including real estate and M&A deals

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders on site remediation and due diligence

  • Optionally assist with environmental litigation and energy regulatory issues

Requirements:

  • 4–6 years of experience practicing environmental law

  • Familiarity with federal and state environmental regulations, including CERCLA, RCRA, Clean Air Act, and Clean Water Act

  • Ability to advise on environmental transactional matters and site remediation

  • Willingness to support energy rate work or air quality issues is preferred but not required

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active membership in good standing with a state bar (admission in Michigan or Illinois preferred)

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing abilities

  • Excellent communication and client-relations skills

  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment

  • Scientific literacy or experience in engineering, geology, or a related field is a plus
