Job Overview

A law firm seeks an attorney to support its Energy and Natural Resources Practice Group in San Diego, California. The ideal candidate will have over two years of regulatory law experience, preferably in energy regulation, and must be licensed to practice in California. Strong writing and research skills, along with excellent academic credentials, are essential. A background in civil litigation or regulated industries is advantageous.

Duties

  • Conduct legal research and analysis related to energy and natural resources law and policy.
  • Represent clients in administrative proceedings and litigation related to energy and natural resources.
  • Provide legal advice on issues including utility rates, renewable energy, oil and gas, mining, and water rights.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts, including leases, joint venture agreements, and purchase and sale agreements.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and professionals in cross-disciplinary teams to provide comprehensive legal advice.
  • Implement best practices under the guidance of senior attorneys.
  • Analyze and draft legal memoranda assessing legal risks and opportunities.
  • Participate in designing legal strategies for proposed legislation.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in California.
  • Over three years of experience in administrative litigation, regulated industries, or energy and natural resources.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to energy and natural resources.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with administrative hearings.
  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
  • Experience with agencies such as the California Public Utilities Commission or California Energy Commission.
  • Ability to identify factual and legal issues and develop legal strategies.
  • Strategic problem-solving skills with strong analytical ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize effectively.

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the California State Bar.

  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
